Nevertheless, someone out there – somewhere – has decided that today, August 9, is to be observed as National Book Lovers Day. So then, let’s observe the day and yes, why not? Let’s celebrate!

I am in the process of reading two or three books already, so I should probably continue one of those fine volumes. One excellent read that I am in the midst of is Revolution, by Eric Metaxas. It’s a historical account of the colonial years prior to and during our War for Independence from Great Britain.

This summer I was able to complete at least ten other books and I enjoyed each one. The books that made the deepest impression were various allegories, fairy tales, and works of fantasy by George MacDonald. These tales were all written in the late 1800s, but the rich blend of superb writing, along with deep spiritual truth provided me with wonderful reading experiences.

So then, allow me to encourage you to find a book that’s already on a shelf in your home, or perhaps do a quick check on Amazon for a title you have had on your mind. Or, perhaps you can take a few moments to visit your local book seller to peruse the selection.

In any case, observe and celebrate the day with me. Find a book you like, prepare your favorite cup of tea or coffee, find a quiet corner, and read at least a chapter or two. If you’re short of time, you can always finish it later!

Incidentally…When you can, please visit my YouTube channel, All About Reading, where I discuss great books, encourage people to read great books, challenge parents to read to their children, and have their children read great books.
